Glossary
Geo-grid terms, in plain words.
For agencies and the business owners they report to: what each word on a Local Pinmeter map, report or price means.
The grid
- Geo-grid
- A pattern of points on the map around a business. At each point we search Google Maps as if we were standing there, so you see how rankings change across the area instead of from one spot.
- Grid point (pin)
- One spot on the grid. Each pin is one real Google Maps search made from that spot. The dot on the map shows the result.
- Grid size
- How many pins across and down, from 3×3 (9 pins) to 21×21 (441 pins). The grid can be a square or a circle.
- Spacing
- The distance between neighbouring pins, for example 0.5 mi. Small spacing shows one neighbourhood in detail; wide spacing shows a whole city.
- Centre
- The middle of the grid, usually the business’s own Google listing.
- Keyword
- The search term the grid checks, for example “nail salon near me”. Each keyword gets its own map.
- Phone view
- Searches are made as Google Maps on a phone shows them, the default. Rankings on a phone can differ from a computer.
- Map zoom
- How far in the map is zoomed when the search is made. It changes which businesses Google shows, so scans are only compared at the same zoom. The default is 14.
Reading a map
- Rank
- Where the business appears in the Google Maps results at that pin. 1 is first. The number inside each dot is the rank.
- Colours
- Green: rank 1 to 3. Yellow: 4 to 10. Orange: 11 to 20. Red: not in the top 20. Grey: the point failed to load.
- 1–3
- 4–10
- 11–20
- Not in the top 20
- Failed point
- Top 3
- The first three results, the ones a searcher sees first without scrolling. Most agencies aim for green dots.
- Top 20 and “20+”
- A phone scan checks the first 20 businesses Google Maps lists at each pin. “20+” means the business isn’t among them there. That is a real result, not an error.
- Failed point
- A pin that returned no result because of an error, shown grey with a dash. Its credit comes back, and it’s left out of the scores.
Scores
- Pinmeter Score™
- The share of pins where the business is in the top 3, from 0 to 100%. One number per keyword. Higher is better.
- Pin Rank™
- The average rank across all pins. A pin outside the top 20 counts as 21, and failed points are left out. Lower is better: 1.0 would mean first everywhere.
- Found in the top 20
- The share of pins where the business appears at all in the first 20 results.
- Best rank
- The highest position the business reaches anywhere on the grid.
Reports
- PinDelta™
- The “what changed” report after every scheduled scan: which keywords went up or down, which pins changed, and which competitors moved past the business or fell behind.
- Rival Board™
- The businesses ranked above your client at each pin, from the top 20 kept for every search.
- Review Race™
- Your client against the top 3 businesses near them: rating, review count and reviews gained a month.
- Location roll-up report
- One report for a business with several locations: a summary table, then each location’s changes.
- Agency branding
- Reports carry the agency’s name, logo, website and phone at the top, with a small “Powered by Local Pinmeter” line at the bottom.
Agency tools
- Keyword Ledger™
- What each client’s package includes, such as “SEO, 10 keywords”, and the monthly list of extra keywords to put on each invoice.
- Pin Prospector™
- Upload a list of businesses and each one is scanned on a 9×9 phone grid for its main category, with a heatmap report and share link to start the sales conversation. 81 credits per business.
- LeadPin™
- A free-scan page for an agency’s own website, with the agency’s brand and booking link. Visitors scan their own business, and the agency gets the lead.
- PinBridge™
- Import a client’s past scans from your previous tracker, so their trend carries on instead of starting from zero.
- ProfilePush™
- Coming soon: write one update, offer or event and publish it to many Google Business Profiles at once, now or on a schedule.
- PinProof™
- Our accuracy check: a phone searching at the pins, compared with our ranks. Its results will be published on the accuracy page, whichever way they go.
Credits and scans
- Credit
- One grid point for one keyword: one Google Maps search from one spot. A 7×7 grid uses 49 credits per keyword; a 13×13 grid uses 169.
- Scan
- One run of a grid for one or more keywords. It can run now or on a schedule: daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly.
- Rollover
- Unused monthly credits stay for 2 months before they expire, so a quiet month isn’t wasted.
- Extra credits
- Credits bought on top of a plan: 10,000 for $25. They last 180 days from purchase.
